I'm not sure whats changed since 1.37 but there is a way to host battles somehow (I do not know if owning the pack immediately unlocks modules of Dynamic campaign in pacific or you still have to grind for them). You do fly planes which may not be unlocked in your faction tech tree. Theres various modes you can fly in, with silver lion rewards. If your first plane got shot down you could 'jump' to any surviving wingman planes. Some missions have AI controlled wingman aircraft as part of a squad. Single player campaign is not dramatized, so you don't play a character, you just have a cutscene laying out a historical scenario, go do the mission, simple tasks depicting events in the conflict.
